How to verify if a farm uses a Timelock (Avax)

How to verify Timelock (Avax)

In this article we will show you how to check via the Avalanche block explorer whether a MasterChef contract has a Timelock or not. Not sure what Timelocks are? Check it out here.

Step 1. Get the MasterChef #

The first thing we need to do is to find the MasterChef contract address. By following the steps in this article, you can find the MasterChef contract address. Once you have found the MasterChef contract address, copy the address and paste it in the search field on the Avax block explorer.

What you can also do is pick one of the reviewed farms on our website rugdoc.io and click on the ‘MasterChef’ button. This will directly open the MasterChef contract address in the Avax block explorer.

Step 2. Verify the MasterChef owner #

In this guide, we will use Zabu Finance’s MasterChef contract. Once you have opened the MasterChef contract address on the Avax explorer, click on ‘Read Contract’.

Under ‘Read Contract’, scroll down until you reach the ‘owner’ section and click on the listed address.

Step 3. Verify the Timelock #

On this new page, click on the ‘Code’ tab. You will now see the type of contract that is the owner of the MasterChef contract. If it says ‘Timelock’ as its contract name, the MasterChef is owned by a Timelock.

Step 4. Verify Timelock Delay #

Good! Now that we have verified the Timelock as being the owner of the MasterChef contract, we recommend to check the Timelock delay. To do so, Click on the ‘Read Contract’ button on the Timelock page.

Read contract timelock

Now search for the section called ‘delay’. The value in this field is in seconds. To convert it to hours, divide it by 3600. In this example (Zabu Finance’s Timelock), the delay is set to 43200 which is just about 12 hours.

Now you can verify the timelock ownership and delay parameter in order to check for potential rugs such as 100% withdrawal fees. If you found this article useful, make sure to check out our other articles on wiki.rugdoc.io.
